Cougars Win a Tight one against Averill Park
While everyone got off the bus on Wednesday, May 31st 2006, one
thing was on everybody’s mind. Wiffleball. They all knew that they
were in a close race in the division, and were ready to prove
themselves at 3:30. It was the Cougars and the Sea Bass. A rematch
of the Memorial Day matchup that had everyone on the edge of their
seat. Mark Fitzpatrick took the hill for the Cougars and Steve
Powers got the nod in the away dugout. Mark pitched three solid,
with two k’s, but couldn’t get the job done, leaving with twelve
runs against him. The Cougars pounced all over Powers, and chased
him out, giving room for Jeremy Menard. Menard did well at the dish
as well, hitting three big flies, and leaving the job up to the
batters. The Sea Bass hitting was strong, as all their players
contributed against Cy Young winner Scott Fitzpatrick. The game was
now tied 21-21 in the bottom of the eighth. The Cougars were
patient, bringing home four and putting in Mike Triscari to seal the
deal. He struggled, but got the job done. It was messy, but he
pitched well, fanning two batters.
So the Cougars won this battle by a final score of 25-23. Closer
than they wanted, but still a good game.
